Ahead of International Sushi Day on 18th June, we’ve analysed Google Trends data to discover where sushi is the most popular across Australia. According to the results, Queensland comes in top place with the term ‘sushi’ having peaked the highest in popularity in the last month, scoring 100/100 on Google Trends

This is followed by South Australia, New South Wales and Western Australia. These states received Google scores of 70-85 in popularity in the last month - some strong contenders for the top spot.
Coming in fifth place was Victoria, followed by the Australian Capital Territory; it seems sushi isn’t the standout cuisine in these areas. Perhaps with Melbourne’s popular street food scene, sushi is only one of the fantastic flavour profiles you can enjoy in this state.

Surprisingly, sushi is only half as popular in Northern Territory, known for its multicultural food scene it seems sushi must share the landscape with other top flavours.

At the bottom of the list is Tasmania, with sushi being the least popular here. With seafood being the main special, it seems this state may prefer their fish cooked!
